Teddy is now officially a daddy. Teddy is one of our favorite yorkie sires and is now proven. He has an excellent coat and topline and really is proportioned just right. This breeding wasn't so much as to the match up of Bessy and Teddy but to prove Teddy.
The breeding we are looking foward to seeing is Baily and Teddy. They both have similar body types and both are very cute yorkies.
Back to Bessy and Teddy's litter. She went into labor 10:00 pm Friday night and had one male puppy weighting 4.1 oz. We gave her a shot of oxytocin and she continued in a light to mild labor for 3 hrs. But no heavy contractions. After that she settled in and started focusing in on her puppy. We couldn't feel anymore puppies but we still felt things weren't right and that she still had at least one more puppy.
The next morning she still didn't have another puppy. We gave her another shot of oxytocin to bring her into labor but she still didn't have anymore puppies. It never fails, with this being a Holiday weekend our vet is closed. Normally in a situation like this we would take her in to have an x-ray. This way we would know for sure.
So far, Bessy and the puppy are doing just fine but we are going to have to monitor Bessy's behavior and temp. closely. If there are any changes we will have to take her to the emergency hospital.
This is one of the most chalanging aspects of breeding yorkshire terriers, making the right decision at the right time.
